Unlike mosquito traps which attract and kill mosquitoes and other biting insects, Conceal Candles keep them away from you. You place them near you to protect the area you inhabit outdoors: pool, patio, deck or yard. You can also put them near open doorways to deter mosquitoes from going inside. If you have more than light mosquito density, you should also get one or more traps. The advantages of the Conceal Candles are that they are very inexpensive to operate (less than 15 cents per hour), they do not release even minimal toxicity, and are very effective. They release a very slight, non-objectionable odor. There is nothing to monitor or clean. You need at least 2 candles for up to 4 people. One will not release enough scent to be effective. Add one more for each 4 additional people in the area. If your area is large, you will also need more candles. |

| Why Conceal Candles Work | |||||||||||||||||||
The Conceal inhibitor resulted from cooperative research between the USDA Agricultural Research Service and BioSensory, which co-own its US and International patents. Conceal is an inhibitor, not a repellent. Repellents like Citronella and DEET simply smell bad. Mosquitoes avoid them and search for a target that smells better. Then they bite. A mosquito with a "nose-full" of Conceal, however, has difficulty smelling anything or anyone, so they can't find human targets. To humans, Conceal Candles have a pleasant scent, a mixture of geraniums, rosemary and mint. It is not strong. Conceal Candles are many times more effective than Citronella and more convenient than DEET. In field trials conducted in a Florida swampland using scientifically accepted protocols, people in the vicinity of the Conceal Candles experienced up to 75% less mosquito landings than people who were unprotected and many less than those protected by DEET. Conceal Candles are a simple, easy way to enjoy the outdoors. They are convenient, inexpensive, non-toxic and pleasant in appearance and scent. |

| Directions for Use | |||||||||||||||||||
Conceal Candles are designed for use outdoors or in semi-enclosed areas such as porches and patios. Place candles around the perimeter of the area to be protected on a heat-resistant surface away from flammable materials and out of the reach of children and pets. Start them 30 minutes before going outside. The candles will form a pool of liquid wax which releases the Conceal. We greatly prefer the candles in a jar. Conceal evaporates from the candles over time, so they become less effective with continual exposure to the air and relighting. The jar with lid prevents evaporation when not in use. If you prefer the candles alone, get candles that you will use up rather quickly. Place them in a tall hurricane glass type of container. They will burn better and evaporation will be slowed. Keep the wicks trimmed to 1/4 inch and protect candle flame from drafts. For maximum protection, allow 20-30 minutes for molten pool of wax to form around the wick. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Smother flame to extinguish. |

| How Do Mosquitoes and Biting Insects Attack? | |||||||||||||||||||
Female mosquitoes (the ones that bite) possess a number of very sophisticated physiological tools that make humans and animals easy prey for its insatiable appetite. When humans and animals exhale, they give off CO2 (carbon dioxide) and Octenol (an alcohol). Mosquitoes have sensors that can detect the presence of these two chemicals at a distance of almost 100 ft. Once the mosquito picks up the scent, they will immediately change direction and track down the intended victim. Their eyesight is poor, so they follow their nose. When they get close enough to see you, they bite. When Conceal hits their sensorsl, their ability to smell is greatly decreased. Without the sense of smell, targets are hard to find. You become concealed from the mosquitoes. |

| Tests | |||||||||||||||||||
In this test, Conceal in candle form was tested against no protection. 4 people, male and female, rotated through 4 locations. The results are shown on the right. The control subject (unprotected) had 147 mosquito landings, while the others had 13, 13 and 1 respectively. |

In a 4-day test conducted by Dan Kline of the USDA, people in an area with Conceal were tested against people in an area with no protection. Landings on humans in the Conceal protected area were reduced by 70%.

FAQs |
||
| Q. What makes the Conceal better? | A. Conceal candles (and Cognitos) effectively repel mosquitoes, black flies and no-see-ums without releasing toxic fumes. They use a substance that was discovered in tests with the USDA field testing service which holds a co-patent with the manufacturer. | |
| Q. Is this product safe? | A. Yes. It has no toxic substance at all. | |
| Q. What do they smell like? | A. There is a faint odor of rosemary, cedar, geraniums, and mint. | |
| Q. How long do the candles last? | A. It varies by size. We do recommend the candle in the jar as the best bet for relighting may times. The conceal will evaporate over time from candles exposed to air. Place the bare candles in tall hurricane glass containers to insure even burning and slower evaporation. | |
| Q. Where do you place the Conceal Candles? | A. The substance is carried by the wind, so to be effective as the wind shifts, you need at candles on all sides. Use at least 2 for of up to 4 people.
