Summary: The DynaTraps attract and capture all flying insects, including moths, flies, gnats and mosquitoes. The XL is twice as big as the 1000 and has more features, yet they are both quite small, silent. They do not require any other attractants, but Octenol will increase the catch. They are good for small yards or large patios and can be used indoors.

How they work: Both use UV, size, shape, heat and a small amount of self-generated CO2 to attract mosquitoes, gnats and all other flying insects, including flies and moths. When they enter the DynaTrap, they are vacuumed into the catch tray (or net on the XL). They are NOT zappers, which we do not recommend.

Either of these traps can be used in small yards or large patios. If you have a larger yard, we recommend traps that use propane or CO2 tanks to release more CO2, which attracts from a much farther distance, about 100 feet.

They primarily use UV light to attract, so their effective range is about 30 feet. The XL bulbs are 50%brighter, so they are easier to see, hence more effective. Both DynaTraps use UV light (2 blue bulbs), heat, color, size, and a small amount of CO2 generated by the Titanium Oxide coated surface to attract mosquitoes, gnats and other biting insects as well as flies and moths. The optional Nosquito Octenol lure will attract more mosquitoes and add to the catch.

Insects are sucked into the solid plastic catch tray (or net on the XL) by a very quiet fan from which they cannot escape. Note that it is not a zapper, so there are no annoying sounds.  Both are small and easy to clean.

The DYNATRAP® received the IENA Bronze Medal in an international contest for inventions. IENA is an internationally recognized organization for global competition with highly qualified and respected inventors exhibiting on an annual circuit in Nurnberg, Germany.

The XL is larger than the 1000 and has a more powerful fan, a protective screen between the bulbs and the fan, and a damper that closes when the trap is turned off to prevent the insects from escaping. It also has 50% brighter lights (6 watt vs. 4).

The 1000 is 12"h x 9" diameter. It weighs 3 lbs. It uses 4 watt UV bulbs.

The XL is 15"h x 13" diameter. It weighs 8 lbs. It uses 6 watt UV bulbs.

Either trap will work well outdoors or indoors for moderate flying insect activity. They attract from about 30 feet, primarily by UV light. The XL has a brighter light and stronger fan so it is more effective.

ATTRACTANTS   Heat, UV light, color, size and shape and a small of CO2 generated by its Titanium Oxide surface.  Use the Nosquito Octenol lure to increase the catch (outside only).

OPERATION  Simple on/off switch.  We recommend that you leave it on 24 hours a day. It will become an insect beacon at night when the other lights are out. It has a 7' cord that plugs into a regular 110v outlet.

PLACEMENT  This is one of the most important considerations. It should be placed in a dim location so that the light is visible at a distance. Place it between 5' to 6' from the floor. The light attracts from up to 30 feet, but it must be seen by the insects to work.Once you place it, monitor the catch.  If you are not catching many, move the machine to another location.  If you have a lot of flying insects, you may need a number of these. And remember that humans are always more attractive than any machine.

FAQs

Q. What is the warranty period?   A. One year.
Q. Where do you place the machine?   A. 5-6 feet high in a dim, visible place. It should be the brightest light in the immediate area. Against a darker wall or dim area works best.
Q. What is the effective range of the unit?   A. It can attract up to 30 feet.
Q. How does this unit differ from the others?   A. These traps attract all flying insects, including beneficial ones. Most machines cannot be used indoors, but these can. They are relatively small, silent and unobtrusive. Since they attract from a smaller area, they can be used in small yards or large patios.
